Sharka’s Gauge Cups

Gauge cups for everyone!

Gauge cups for everyone!

I have a new product in the store – Sharka’s Gauge Cups!

Complete solution.

Years ago, I got a set of fiberglass cups from Russell of Project M. They’ve been fantastic. I’ve enjoyed them every drive. Since installing them, I’ve had folks regularly contact me asking where to get them. Often folks would come back and ask me to make them some after hearing that Russel didn’t really enjoy making the single cups. It happened enough that I thought I should send an email and find out if it was true.

Russ answered quickly and indeed did not like making individual cups. Russell has a full RHD crash pad replacement (which looks lovely) that he offers with three cups built in. To get three individual cups for a US customer, he has to cut them out of that pod after making it. A lot of work and wasted material.

I asked if he’d mind me making up some cups and selling singles in my store. He agreed quite happily. (Thanks again Russell!!!)

Here we are, a few months later. Gauge pods in stock!

Fits all 52mm gauges.

Fits all 52mm gauges.

My pods come with a universal mounting clip, plates to strengthen the back of the crash pad, and a few feet of safety wire to keep the legs from splaying out. I worked quite hard in getting that mounting clip as close to universal as possible. It works for both short body gauges and standard ones.

I also modified the original cup to be as symmetrical as possible. That way, the cups will work equally well on RHD and LHD. Not much modification was needed, but I figured it would help a few folks out.

The molds are about 3 lbs of silicone each. There’s a lot of void area in this little cup. I cast each cup by hand. They’re done in black urethane plastic. They are quite strong. Sharka’s set of cups has been installed for a couple months getting weathered. All of the baking in the sun and paint booth during the paint process helped test the cups. If they don’t break apart from mounting stress in extreme New Mexico heat, they should work anywhere.

I also wrote up a full install page for these little things. I believe it’s complete. I’ll add to it as I find (or folks tell me about) things I left out.

Get your gauge cups now! I’ve got a ton of sets in stock.

hi, i own a 91 miata that i am trying to fix one by one
I am trying to follow what your doing in your car ( well like i said trying because
it gets very expensive and hard sometimes). Anyway what your doing to your car
is very impressive and a lot of help for the enthusiast like us thank you for that. Well
heres my question to you, i am trying to follow the gauges you put in your car, can i put 4 holes/ 4 gauge cups instead of 3 like what you did? Thank you again

I just saw you replied twice. Sorry about not answering earlier.

After I replied, I went out and measured. A gauge cup takes up ~3.5″ of space. With my installation, there’s ~4.5″ of space left on that right hand side between the last cup and the vent.

There SHOULD be space for a 4th gauge cup, however, I’m not sure what’s behind that empty spot. Might be nothing, or there might be a support keeping a gauge from living there.

    you have thanks again

How about freezing conditions? Do they handle exreme colds? How about giving them some time in freezer and see it they become brittle?
    Cheers
