Paint Blog 6: Blocking

Smooth. So smooth.

Smooth. So smooth.

I just about fell over when I went to Carmer’s and saw Sharka with a lot of the body work blocked out. It’s… well look at it. That door is SHINY. And it’s not wet. The primer is just that smooth.

Wow.

Wow.

I had to post show another.

I had to post show another.

Just… wow. No intelligent words. I’m stunned. So pretty.

As promised in a past blog, instead of just sputtering and typing “wow” in different ways, I’ll put up some random inspirational quotes generated by the internet. Thanks Googles.

“You’re only given a little spark of madness. You mustn’t lose it.” – Robin Williams

Again. No words. Quote time. Perhaps two.

“Look at life through the windshield, not the rear-view mirror.” – Byrd Baggett

“You can’t build a reputation on what you are going to do.” – Henry Ford

...

The tail section is just stunning. I’m amazed and impressed.

“I can accept failure, everyone fails at something. But I can’t accept not trying.” – Michael Jordan

Okay. I need like some Dilbert quotes now. These are getting too deep.

Bumpers!

Bumpers!

Mud guards and stuff.

Mud guards and stuff.

Headlights and stuff.

Headlights and stuff.

These bits are looking great too. Just have to block the hood and scuff up the hardtop and other Montego areas.

“Outside of a dog, a book is man’s best friend. Inside of a dog, it’s too dark to read.” – Groucho Marx

Paint books.

Paint books.

At this point, I started chatting with Ken about stripe paint. It was something that had been on my mind for a while, but I’d not spoken about it yet. He brought out the books. I poured through them.

These books are fantastic. Paint codes and samples for all makes and years. I looked at many colors. Then we went into the paint shed.

Sikkens paint.

Sikkens paint.

I was not quite prepared for this. Ken told me about the German paint they use, but this whole setup. Man. Loss of words again.

If you’re interested in Sikkens, take a look at this link. Their USA site is pretty interesting too. To sum up: this is the good stuff. Paint cost for a Miata-sized car is around $1800. That’s just paint.

I can’t wait to see Sharka slathered in it.

One more thing.

The last panel.

The last panel.

This panel will just be masked off. It won’t be painted with the rest of the car.

And on that bombshell, it’s time for bed. Goodnight internet!

“Life is a great big canvas, and you should throw all the paint on it you can.” – Danny Kaye

    Two questions:

If you don’t mind my asking, let’s play guess that number. I’m gonna guess the number four. Am I close?

Second question, think you could get a picture of your car next to that Celica in the background? I’ve always had a soft spot for those liftback versions…

Five is a good number too.

And I took a few Celica pix today. I’ll post them with a future update. It’s a gorgeous little car that got a full street restoration.

Five doesn’t surprise me. Looks like a ten though!

Looking forward to Celica pics. I know a guy with a 77 that has a 7m Supra engine transplanted into it, which helps it run 11’s regularly. Reminds me a lot of how you’ve done your car, actually.

Getting close! Cannot wait to see Sharka in all his glory!
