I don’t often get the opportunity to make colored gauge faces. I made some dark blue ones for a gentleman a couple months ago, but didn’t take any photos. When the order came in for these red gauges, I thought I’d take the opportunity to shoot them and blog about it before I packed them up and shipped them off.
These are just my standard GT-40 NA gauges, but with a red background and altered redline style. The red is meant to match the OEM red interior that Mazda put on the 93 LE here in the States. It’s very deep and rich. The colors in the photos are pretty accurate. I’m really pleased with how they turned out.
The owner of these gauges wants to use LEDs for lighting. I happen to have a set of LED bulbs for testing, so I popped them in my cluster and lit them up. The lighting is quite good! Usually I see hotspots with LEDs, but the lighting on this gauge set is pretty evenly distributed.
The needles aren’t on the gauges very tightly, so there’s a bit more light leaking out of the centers than normal. Also, there’s a bit of red visible around some numbers in the photos. I didn’t notice that with my eyes, but the camera picked it up.
Thanks for the order Ryan! Hope you get years of enjoyment out of these gauges.
What an amazing set of gauges. That red is awesome. May have to save up some go-cart money for these.
Thanks Lance! Yeah, these turned out really awesome. I need to make up a design with this red and put it in my store showcase.
Sheer extrovert genius.
Isn’t it something? It makes me wonder what Sharka might look like with red gauges.
