I make a lot of gauges. A lot. And I’m extremely pleased to get to do it. I making this stuff and helping folks enjoy their Roadsters even just a little bit more.
And sometimes I’m amazed at the projects people come up with and ask me to work on.
A guy called Jacob contacted me asking if I could make up a custom gauge set for him with one really special feature – a re-calibrated speedometer to work with a much taller gear-set. See, Jacob put a 3.63 diff in his Roadster, putting his speedometer off by approximately 20%. So, I made him a new speedometer with the scale shifted the correct amount.
I didn’t have anything with quite the same face style on hand to compare it to, but I did have another 6 o’clock speedometer from a Version Zero. You can sorta see how they match up. 100 on the stock gauge = 120 mph on Jacob’s new one. 150 mph = 180 mph at the top end.
Jacob also had me create some kanji on each gauge. I don’t often get a chance to do this. Though I speak very little Japanese at all, I enjoy the challenge of drawing the characters. (Hope I got everything right.)
It was a great project and I had a blast working on it. Thanks for choosing my little shop, Jacob!
