Hey everyone. Adam here. You may be wondering where all of the blog posts have gone? That’s a very good question and I’d love the answer myself.
Yeah. I don’t truly know where they are.
See, the host that used to provide server space for this site went out of business. This happened quietly somewhere in the last 12 months. I used a host called 24shells for domain hosting, private server space, and name registration. Yeah, I had my own name server. It was neat… and then, they just vanished.
As near as I can tell, my server is just off. I had to scramble to setup a new one and rehost my store and static pages on it. I, thankfully, was able to move the revlimiter.net domain over to the new host and not lose it. That would have been a huge blow as I’ve had the URL since 1998. At least I’ve been able to restore things.
I’ve got a blog restore from around 2013 in place. I, like an idiot, was running monthly backups TO THE DEAD SERVER. I never suspected I would fully lose access to it. I thought at the very least it could be reimaged by the company. I never thought the company would just go away.
Anyways, I still have all of the blog images stored and sorted in my private server here in the shop. I just have to restore blog posts one by one, then repopulate the images and hit publish. I can do about four an hour.
If anyone has a blog post they need restored, please comment below. I can find the text and give priority to restoring it. In the meantime, I’m slowly bringing things back as I have free time to do so.
RIP old web server. You were great for about 8 years. And RIP to all of the years of comments you all left. I have no way of getting those back. I’m truly sorry about that.
Wow, that’s a bummer! I’m not sure how you’re restoring the blog posts, since you mentioned you only have the images. However, if it helps – consider using archive.org – FWIW, I was looking for the NC fluid change post, and everything is there: https://web.archive.org/web/20250213101454/https://revlimiter.net/blog/2017/02/nc-mx-5-miata-2006-2015-oil-trans-diff-fluid-change/
Thanks Lev. I’ve been using archive.org for the text. I paste it all in there and then manually populate the photos. I can do about 4 an hour.
