Suspension Install! Sorta

Yes, I say “sorta.” Because I didn’t take many photos. Because I punched myself in the face with a crowbar.

So there I was, all done with the front suspension and the front chin spoiler install, when it was time to turn my attention to the rear. I had my wife stand on the rear suspension as always (I’ve done something like an even dozen suspension installs on Sharka) and proceeded to go to work at getting the rear spring/shock combo out. I had the brilliant idea to use a crowbar to help wedge it out from under the frame lip. It worked! And when the suspension came out, so did the crowbar.

WHAM.

Right in the eye. About 2mm away from my eyeball. A small cut and slight bruise. I’m very lucky. I’m also a damn idiot. 3 days later, I still have no feeling around my eye and up on my forehead. sigh…. so I was too pissed off to take pix of the rear and then pix of adjusting the ride height. Anyways, here’s what I got.

As you can see, I like the long bolt method for the front. Aside from it being the only bolt you can’t really use air tools on, there’s no easier way.

Slide the long bolt into the swaybar bracket space, and that’s it! This even works on the 90-95 Miatas with the power steering lines running through that bracket on the driver’s side.

My favorite part is how the suspension just gives you the shock after you take out that long bolt.

TEIN'd
And here we have the installed driver’s side. I managed to not shoot a photo with the swaybar clean and connected. doh.

=)

The Sharka rebuild is coming along nicely. I just hope to not put out my eye in the process.

I thought that the tein HA had helper springs?

Hmmm. Reaching back into my memory, it seems like maybe they did. I think the hip thing to do at the time was to leave the helper springs out of the system. I probably have a set in my garage somewhere.

I think FLEX came with helper springs back in the early 2000s as well!
