1002-style pedals straight out of the package

The winter weather has eaten into my car blogging. Not much desire to go out into a cold garage and twiddle with cold tools. BUT!!!! Spring has sprung.

These fancy pedal covers from Rev9 are inspired by the famous M2-1002 car. Well…. they’re famous if you’re a Miata guy into limited edition Japanese models. But that’s most of my readership, right?

Anyways, onto the review. I warn you, it’ll be a short one. There’s only so much you can say about pedal covers. And yet, I got TWO blog posts out of it. Hardcore, huh?

These pedals shine like jewelry.

Build quality: Extremely high. These are not only beautiful, but they’re well made. And they’re unbelievably light. I wish I’d thought to shoot a photo of these on my gram scale. Each pedal weighs nothing. And there’s not a bad cut on any edge. These are extremely well made. A+

It's almost a shame to put your shoes on these and scratch them.

Style: Obviously, style is totally subjective. I, for one, dig these pedals. I think they’re the most beautiful on the market as of 2010. They’re elegant and retro and insanely shiny. In other words, perfect.
Another A+

Installation: Well, they’re pedals. How hard can it be? Without any instructions, I can tell you that installation could have been easier. That’s why there’s another blog post that goes with this one: how to install these Rev9 1002 pedals. Still, the install was not exactly tricky. B-

Useability: I did actually buy these in order to increase pedal grip and make driving more enjoyable, right? In this aspect they perform pretty well. The brake and clutch pedals have great grip. The dead pedal (which Bumblebee is holding above) is extended beyond the factory dead pedal and supports your whole foot. This feels extremely nice. The whole pedal kit is nearly worth it just for the better dead pedal support.

But the gas pedal? I do not like it. The little bend somehow manages to get under my shoe when I’m braking. It is extremely annoying. It was so annoying that I took the cover off and increased that little bend so that it points straight down. I know it’s there to make heel-toeing easier, but I’ve honestly never found it to be difficult. Overall useability: B+

Once again, that's Rev9 for all your JDM needs.

Overall: These pedals deserve a solid A-. Before bending the gas pedal to my liking, I would have rated them a B+. I just hated getting my foot caught under the edge of that pedal cover. But after modification? Wonderful.

I’ve been driving on these for nearly a month now and have no plans to remove them in favor of something else. I highly recommend them to anyone. Hit Rev9 and grab a set for yourself.
