Steering Wheel Collection- 2009

This is something I’ve been meaning to do for a while. I used to have a somewhat weak page on the site here, outside of the blog, when random, badly shot pix of my steering wheels. I recently got a new one for my birthday from my sweetie, so I took the opportunity to put them all in the lightbox for a shoot. Beware: toy pix follow.

First up, my polished Nardi Classico. I love this wheel ever so much. The polished version is very hard to find, and even more rare is the Nardi Tokyo horn button. The rim could be a little thicker for my taste, but it’s a great wheel. I usually run it all winter, when the hard top blocks the sun’s reflection in the spokes.

Next, my 1980s vintage Momo F1. It has a flat bottom (D-cut is the term) and an oval profile rim. It looks thin straight on, but is very deep. It feels GREAT in your hands. I haunted ebay for nearly a year before this one popped up. It might be my favorite wheel.

Soundwave is huggling my 1970s vintage Momo Type 36 from their Symbol Line. My wife’s coworker bought this wheel in Italy in the 70s on his honeymoon and had it hanging in his closet after selling the car it belonged to. I asked and he sold it to me for pennies. This wheel has a great stock look and FEELS amazing to hold. The rim is extremely thick and has finger buttons molded into the back side. Not molded finger divots like an OEM wheel, but little bearings sticking out of the rim. It feels great.

Finally, my newest wheel, the Momo Prototipo. I’ve lusted after this wheel for a good three years now. It was a 70s design that Momo recently decided to start selling again. The metal spokes just do it for me.

It feels pretty good. The rim could be a bit thicker and the leather could be a bit softer, but I’m not complaining too much. This wheel is sweet. It’ll be staying in my collection for a good long time.

And finally, I present this. A “special edition” chrome foil ClubRoadster.net sticker. This thing is pretty impressive. As a fan of toys that often come with chrome stickers, I feel I can speak about chrome decal quality. This is good. Up close, it seems to have a bit of a faux-CF texture to it. From more than two feet away, all you see is the shine. Very damn cool stuff. Thanks, Randy! Sharka’s not letting go of this sticker for a while.
