Lotus Elise Seats

(added for future visitors. DAMN I wish I could have seen these other posts when I originally made this one!)

I’ve been in the market for a new set of seats for something like three years. I’ve gone back and forth between something by Momo to some stock seats with new leather covers to NB seats and back again. Then, last year, Lotus Elise seats became all the rage on ClubRoadster. They’re light, they sit you low, they have great headrest support, and they’re amazingly inexpensive for a pair. It seems that Lotus guys often get rid of them immediately in order to run real racing seats. See, Elise seats don’t have holes for racing harnesses, so… there ya go. A source of cheap-ish seats.

Besides the lightness and cheapness, there’s one other cool thing about these seats: Probax technology. And my seats have it. They are incredibly comfortable. I can’t even tell you.

Enough chatter. Mine came in the mail this past Monday. Thanks Alan!

I don’t have a light box big enough for a pair of seats, so you get crappy living room pix.

The black things are books holding it up. The seats don’t like to stand by themselves.

Yes, I made vroom-vroom noises. =)

Now to make some brackets and get them installed!

The lotus seats look great. I have been trying to find a source for these exact seats. Would you mind sharing where you found them?

I am building a Factory Five GTM, and am looking for replacement seats for the ones that came in the kit. These look like they would fit the bill nicely!

    Thanks,

I got them on Lotustalk.com in the classifieds section. They pop up pretty regularly there. If you wait long enough and have cash at hand, ready to jump on a deal, you’ll be rewarded. 🙂

    Love your posts,

Elise seats kinda rare here in Kangaroo land! Any chance you considered VW Golf seats. A bit of a funny mount rail, but very comfy. Any info you can point me to. Beetle and Golf seats are made in Mexico. I assume the Lotus beauties were sourced in the U.S.

No idea what Golf seats even look like. Or if they’d fit in a Miata. There’s not much space in our cars.

I got my seats on Lotustalk.com. There’s usually someone on there selling seats. And they’re pretty international. Lots of Lotus guys from all over. Lurk a bit over there and you’re sure to find a set.

    Love your posts,

You say the seats didn’t fit your lightbox. Don’t you approve of flash photography?

I’ve got nothing against flash. I’m just not so good at it. I’m better with hot lights and my lightbox. Which is toy-sized by the way. 🙂

I just barely fit one of my 14″ Enkei’s in there.

how much were the seats on Lotustalk.com? I’m looking for a set for my RX7 FC

  • Del sol says:

Those seats a very low profile and very car should have them. They look light which is economical in the life of a car.

The very heart of your writing whilst appearing reasonable in the beginning, did not sit perfectly with me personally after some time. Somewhere within the sentences you were able to make me a believer but only for a short while. I nevertheless have got a problem with your leaps in assumptions and one would do well to fill in all those gaps. In the event you can accomplish that, I would certainly end up being amazed.
